The most beautiful blue water you've ever seen...
And that's just the start. Gorgeous stretches of perfect white sand beaches. Open air restaurants and small bars. Palm trees swaying. And friendly locals happy to chat it up with you.
Exuma isn't just one island. It's really The Exumas. An archipelago of 365 islands and cays (small islands pronounced "keys") and too many small rocks popping up out of the ocean to count. The Exumas are made up of the 2 larger islands of Great Exuma and Little Exuma and 363 smaller cays with most stretching out to the northwest for 135 miles like a string of sand rimmed pearls in the shallow sea. Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas, is to the northwest of Exuma. The Exumas are undoubtedly the most beautiful in all The Bahamas, which is a superlative of superlatives.
Great Exuma is the main island and George Town, the capital of the chain, is where a majority of the population lives. Its 35 miles in length is oriented from northwest to southeast and varies in width from 7 miles in the west to just a hundred yards in the east. One main road runs along the northern coast weaving between beach houses, settlements, wild palm lined sections, and businesses. The Exuma International Airport (GGT) here with scheduled flights coming in from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Atlanta, Charlotte, Toronto, and Nassau. George Town's business district is packed with businesses and services ringed around a small ocean-fed lake. Three of our fabulous beach houses are on some of Exuma's most sought after beaches with O'Sea Beach House on Hooper's Bay Beach, Lady Blue on Tar Bay Beach, and Sand Diamond Villa on Jimmy Hill Beach.
Little Exuma is southeast of Great Exuma, about 15 minutes drive from George Town and is connected by a short single lane bridge know as The Ferry Bridge. Little Exuma is 10 miles long and has a few smaller settlements and that quiet and laidback "Old Bahamas" feeling that visitors are often searching for. Small intimate coves and a couple of long stretches of beach are hidden from the road keeping their secret beauty safe. Another one of our amazing and sort after properties, The Salt House, is located in Forbes Hill and sits on 300 yards of white sand beach.
Exuma is a place to either be endlessly active or escape and not do a thing at all. "Best day of your life" boating excursions get topped time and time again, while a lounge chair by the pool with the sounds of the ocean waves and palm trees swaying in the breeze help you melt the stress of everyday life away. Who knows, maybe a little of both is best. We'll leave that up to you and we have the perfect beach houses to be your home base.
